いつの間にか時間が来たわたしは、ずっとおんなじことを繰り返しこころに思いながら、ずっと先の何処かへ向かっている。

舞台は、伊豆半島の中央付近の山間部の小さな町。 中学三年生の誠人と桃子が暮らしていた。 幼なじみのふたりは、付かず離れずの、でも特別な間柄であることを意識している関係が、ずっとこのまま続くのだと、漠然と思っていた。 中学３年の一学期の終わり、それは夏の始まり。そして物語の始まり。 夏休み直前に、ホタルという少女が転校してきた。 ホタルは陽気な性格で、その日のうちに、クラスに溶け込んでしまう。 学校で飼っている動物が逃げ出す事件をきっかけに、誠人、桃子、ホタルの間には友情が芽生える。 新しい友達、新しい友情。いつまでも続く関係がまたひとつ増えたと思っていた。 しかし、花火を見た帰り道で三人は水によって作られた、異形の怪物に襲われる。 その事件をきっかけとして、誠人に自分の宿命を知ることになる。 彼には帰らなくてはならない場所があった……。
